Derek has held leading roles in the transport sector across public and private sectors in the United Kingdom, having operated in light rail, heavy rail, high speed railways and piloting of Tram-Train. His experience transcends roles of client, designer, construction and operations and maintenance.  As a leader of engineering, he is passionate about innovation and achieving technological advances in industry.

He is Director, Engineering for Level Crossing Removal Project where he is responsible for driving continuous improvement across the project. His team leads technical requirements and assurance, Technical Standards management, Engineering Management and Digital Engineering.

Prior to his current role Derek was Technical Lead to the Design Joint Venture (Mott MacDonald/ Systra) for High Speed 2, Contracts N1 & N2 for Balfour Beatty Vinci Alliance. This project contained 11km of viaducts, 30km of cuttings, 33km of embankments, motorway crossings, dive under and overbridges with existing railways.
